Tivoli Villas: Villa d'Este, Hadrian's Villa, Gregorian Villa

TIVOLI - THE RENAISSANCE VILLA D'ESTE

Villa d'Este was built as the second Italian Renaissance Villa and I am definitely grateful to the Cardinal Ippolito d'Este if from XVIth Century on the Villa Deste in Tivoli was taken as the model for most of the famous Italian Renaissance Villas ... not only celebrated for its hundreds of Fountains, pure hydraulic engineering masterpieces, but also for its extraordinary Gardens, full of plants, stuccos, tiles, majolica's and flowers everywhere.

Due to its splendor and location,
Villa d'Este hosted the creme of the Europen Royal families, artists in these centuries. Witnesses of its celebrity, the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este in Bellagio and the Tivoli Gardens in Copenaghen were named after this Villa.

TIP: From June through September, it is open at night on Friday and Saturday from 21:00 to 24:00. I will be your private guide to this unforgettable event.

TIVOLI - THE HADRIAN'S VILLA

The Emperor Hadrian was a Caesar who, coupled with his great taste for Architecture, Greek Philosophy and Fine Arts, was able to plan by himself these 120 hectares (300 acres) of pure geniality and pleasure in East Side of Rome.

There is nothing like the
Hadrian's Villa in the entire Old Roman World, so close to Rome: 4 Thermal Spa (Baths), two Theatres, a Stadium, monumental gardens & fountains by using a Roman acqueduct and, of course, more mosaics, in-laid marble and statues everywhere. In the Summer time, it is open at night for spectacles and concerts. Should we visit both Villas in Tivoli (Hadrian's and Villa d'Este), please consider a full day.

VILLA GREGORIANA - GREGORIAN VILLA :

Villa Gregoriana is right in the
outskirts of Rome: A promenade through grottoes, waterfalls, temples, steep ravines. The Villa Gregoriana was created in 1835 by Pope Gregory XVI to prevent the a disastrous event: the flood of the Anio River, main tributary of the Tiber River which flows where Tivoli is located. He decided to alter the course of the Anio (Aniene) river to save the town of Tivoli and its inhabitants.

The plans were to divert the water into two big tunnels dug through the Mount Catillo, generating a surprising waterfall. Since then, the Greagorian Villa, due to its breathtaking grottoes, waterfalls, pathways and landscapes, attracted likewise the Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este travellers, poets and artists of the Grand Tour of Italy.
